Clinical Research Nursing is nursing practice with a specialty focus on clinical research. It includes care provided to research participants, as well as activities to support protocol implementation, data collection and research participant protection.  In addition to providing and coordinating clinical care, clinical research nurses have a central role in assuring ongoing maintenance of informed consent, integrity of protocol procedures and accuracy of research data collection.

About the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center

The NIH Clinical Center is the nation's largest hospital devoted entirely to clinical research. Located in Bethesda, Maryland, the 234-bed hospital research facility has produced many medical breakthroughs for the treatment of diseases.  The proximity of the patient care units to basic science laboratories supports the rapid transmission of scientific observations into new approaches for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.
