A physician or nurse practitioner from the Pain and Palliative Care Service (PPCS) will meet you and introduce the service.

The team member will sit down and talk to you about physical symptoms or emotional/spiritual issues that are causing you or your family distress.

Ex. Pain, nausea, trouble sleeping, anxiety, financial concerns, family stress

A focused exam may be performed to assess bothersome symptoms or pain.

After meeting you, the PPCS provider will discuss possible recommendations with your team and they may make changes based on what is appropriate for your care.

Recommendations could include:

Medications
-
Complementary therapies (ex. Reiki, massage, acupuncture, biofeedback)

Referrals: social work, pet therapy, art therapy, recreation therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture

While in the hospital, the PPCS is available to see you during the weekdays

As an outpatient, you can be seen in the clinic with frequency of visits based on your needs
