Research Study for Coronary Artery Disease

Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seek patients with coronary artery disease - the buildup of plaque in the heart’s arteries that could lead to heart attack. The study may lead to developing better treatments for coronary artery disease and may help doctors understand disease progression. There is no cost to participate. Travel reimbursement may be provided.

In the study, you may have: 

  • Up to three outpatient visits to the NIH Clinic Center
  • Physical exam, medical history, EKG, collection of blood and urine
  • PET, CT, MRI, cardiac CT scans
  • Skin and/or fat biopsy (optional)
  • Compensation for participation

You may participate in this study if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older
  • Have coronary artery disease

You may not participate in this study if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a BMI >40 kg/mP
  • Have history of bleeding disorder or taking anti-coagulation medication

Location: The NIH Clinical Center, America's Research Hospital, is located on the Metro red line (Medical center stop) in Bethesda, Maryland.
