Research Study for Heart Disease and Diabetes

Researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seek patients with cardiometabolic diseases, which includes cardiovascular disease (CVD) (history of heart attack, stent placement or stroke) or having diabetes mellitus (DM). In this study, researchers want to understand the relationship between inflammation of the body and cardiometabolic diseases. There is no cost for study-related tests and procedures and you will receive compensation for participation.

In this study, you will have:

  • Blood draws electrocardiogram and questionnaires to fill about your current condition
  • PET/CT and MRI scans which can take up to 60 minutes.
  • CT scan of their heart. This procedure takes about 60 minutes.
  • Small samples of skin and fat tissue taken (optional)

You may participate in this study if you are:

  • 18 years of age or older with CVD or type 2 diabetes

You may not participate in this study if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have history of bleeding disorder or taking anti-coagulation medication (if participating in the biopsies)

Location: The NIH Clinical Center, America's Research Hospital is located on the Metro red line (Medical Center stop) in Bethesda, Maryland.
