Help Us Conquer the Cold Virus

Healthy Volunteers Needed

Healthy Volunteers Help Us Conquer the Cold Virus

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major cause of common colds in healthy adults. However, RSV infections can be serious and even life-threatening in children, the elderly, and people with weak immune systems.

We need healthy volunteers for a study to develop a model of RSV infection in adults. In the future, we hope to use our model to test new RSV medicines and vaccines. After you enroll in the study, you will receive a single dose of RSV. Some people will develop the usual cold symptoms, while others may develop very little or none at all.

You may be eligible to participate if you are:

  • 18-50 years old
  • Healthy and non-smoking
  • Not living with children under 5 years of age
  • Willing to spend approximately 1.5-2 weeks in the hospital
  • Willing to come back for 2 visits over the next 2 months after you are released from the hospital

All enrolled volunteers will receive financial compensation.

Location: The NIH Clinical Center, America's research hospital, is conveniently located on the Metro Red Line (Medical Center stop) in Bethesda, Maryland.
