Physical Medicine: Education and Training

Clinical education programs for physical medicine and rehabilitation are available to residents and rheumatology fellows from medical centers who request training in rehabilitative rheumatology. Residents from the National Rehabilitation Hospital, Washington D.C. participate in clinical and research rotations through an affiliation between NIH, Rehabilitation Medicine at the NIIH Clinical Center and the National Rehabilitation Hospital. The residents may also avail themselves of clinical specialty teaching and research opportunities in this program

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine physiatrists conduct in-service training and education for nurses and clinical fellows at the NIH Clinical Center. A good number of the physiatrists are invited to lecture at the local community, national and international levels. Many work with national professional organizations to develop teaching and curriculum materials for rehabilitation and rheumatology training. Medical school and college students are also mentored as part of the NIH Research and Training programs.
