On Sept. 16, the NIH held a dedication ceremony for a new Animal Research Community Tribute located on the south lawn of the NIH Clinical Center.

The plaque, presented by the Animal Research Advisory Committee at NIH reads, "With recognition and gratitude to the research animals and the NIH Animal Care and Use Community that have contributed to our exceptional biomedical research advances."

Rear Adm. Terri Clark (pictured far right), director of the Office of Animal Care and Use with the NIH Office of Intramural Research, said that the more than 100 attendees of the plaques unveiling were "quite happy that the tribute was provided. Central themes that emerged from conversations [with attendees] afterwards included the desire to see an annual remembrance, while others commented they wanted to leave mementos at the boulder to express their emotions and commitment to the research animals."
